Bike Week's first deaths take place in 3 counties

In Volusia early Saturday, a 52-year-old New Jersey man visiting because of Bike Week was killed in a hit-and-run crash as he walked along Dirksen Drive near DeBary, deputies said.
Terence Connelly of Williamstown, N.J., attended a party at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093 on U.S. Highway 17-92 but decided to walk back to the house where he was staying, said a Volusia County sheriff's spokesman.
About 2 a.m., Connelly was struck by an unknown vehicle and fell into a ditch on the north shoulder of Dirksen, the Sheriff's Office said. The driver left without reporting the crash and a passerby discovered the body about 8 a.m.
Investigators said evidence shows the vehicle might be maroon with front-end damage. Anyone with information can call investigator John Vedder at 386-860-7030 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477.
